Shawn, if you're reading this, I just want you to know that you are one of my biggest inspirations. Unfortunately, I didn't discover your tunes until about a year ago. Still, I really dig your music, and the emotion you put into it. RIP Shawn.

I moved into Memphis in 77, and at the time I kept hearing about this guitar player in this band called Savage that was really good. Later I learned his name was Shawn Lane. My first introduction to Shawn was one Saturday at the old Strings and Things Music on Hooper Road. Typically the place was crowded with musicians jamming and playing on the store instuments. I asked this one guy who worked there, what was Shawn like? And he replied.."Well..He's kinda like Dennis the Menace on Acid!" he smiled. Later..Shawn came into the store with his two sisters. So here was this kid with braces on his teeth with really long hair..and this is what all the buzz was about? Well..they hooked him up to a Gibson electric and when he started playing..everyone in the place stopped playing and started watching him. His picking and left hands were moving so fast..it was literally a "blur!" He was doing "shred" guitar years before the term was ever coined. It was a wonder the guitar hadn't burst into flames after he had gotten done with it!!

I was first personally introduced to Shawn when The Willys played Night Moves in Memphis (it was either 87 or 88, I can't remember which). He was not only a superior musician, but a very personable man, who loved to share his knowledge and experience. He was glad to speak to aspiring musicians, and give whatever encouragement he could. His music was, and continues to be, an inspiration.

Thank you Shawn (if you're reading this or my mind from up above) for opening my ears and my eyes to the infinite musical possibilities of the guitar. I had the good fortune to see you perform in Shillong when i was still a greenhorn (still am). Thanks to all your instructional material, i'm a far better musician (and getting better everyday). Thank you and god bless. Hope you're taking centre-stage at the great gig in the sky. 😀

I miss Shawn everyday. His music opened up the whole new world to me. I want to say big thanks to Shawn and I can't wait to be able to upload Shawn's fan site in Japanese to spread his amazing music to Japan more. And reading through everyone elses kind message here, I noticed that most of people show their email adress. I can understand why, because everyone is so proud to be Shawn's fan and there's nothing to hide about it.

I have been playing the guitar since the sixties, and have seen most of the major players, but seeing shawn lane with boa in the eighties was one of the best nights of guitar playing I can remember. From the first song I knew that I was watching one of the best.
