While I was in college, learning what would fit into my mind and soul about music, I was given the opportunity to hear the MVP, which totally amazed me that men could actually play what I was hearing. Perhaps it wasn't fair to the others, but I became a instant fan of Shawn. Somehow, something happens to me every time I hear Shawn's work. A tear comes to my eyes because listening to "Gray Pianos Flying" is simply untouchable sonic perfection. Thank you Shawn! You left a Big, Big mark on this Earth! I'll be seeing you soon enough Brother! Daniel Lang

Once in a while god graces this earth with the most amazing musicians and human beings he can conjure. And I am just glad to have been alive during the brief life of shawn lane. I never met him and never saw him in concert but I don't have to. Just like the amazing jason becker, I respect shawn's unnamable talent in the same way. It is just awe inspiring to watch and listen to. It just shows people where constant devotion to an instrument can take you if you truly believe you can do it. Even with all of the guitarists that have came and went in the past there is probably still a never ending supply of music for the future players. God Bless you and keep lighting up the amps in heaven!! R. I. P.

Happy Birthday Shawn!!!! Jason has nothing but great things to say about you. Jason was going to GIT in the late eighties when you did a guitar clinic there. He said you gave him a roadie wrench. He describes many occasions when he was just blown away by your playing. We talk about you every time I go to his place. I am turning you on to everyone I talk to about music and guitar playing. Thank you for existing and I hope you got what you wanted from music. Don't forget Shawn, that it's lonely at the top, and you were up there my friend. I wish I got to meet you at least once, but like Shakespeare said, "better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all" So I'm glad that Jason turned me on to you. Much love. -Armen

I still remember buying Powers Of Ten,on cassette tape, back in 1993,after reading Guitar Player magazine, where a laundry list of players praised his genius. That music still brings me to tears today with "Get You Back" playing,as I type this.I subsequently discovered Time Is The Enemy,a fantastic live cd,with Jonas Hellborg on bass and Jeff Sipe on drums(Shawn was also a very good drummer as well as keyboard player). My next find, was Paris,a must have DVD.Talk about prolific. After hearing of his passing in 2003,I was able to contact by phone,I believe his sister who I was able to purchase The Tri-Tone Fascination and Powers Of Ten Live from,in conjunction with a website set up by his family. My heartfelt thanks goes out to Shawn Lane for his absolute humanity and beauty that was expressed in his music.P.S.Check out the Powers Of Ten film that I believe inspired Shawn. You can find it at www.powersof10.com Sincerely Dave Milikin

As a big fan of music (particularly that which is progressive-minded), I take a great deal of pleasure in the search for that which is exciting and new to my ear. Finding Shawn's music was like striking gold - His compositions are phenomenal, showcasing a pure musical talent by balancing superb technique with honest emotion. The beauty of music is it's timeless nature; Lord knows any fan of Shawn continues his legacy by introducing his music to someone new. I think I'd be impossible not to.

words fail to describe Shawns playing and musical genius. Shawn has obviously touched so many people, and has most definately reached at least one more tonight. as sit here in Montana listening to a Michael Shrieve album with Shawn playing on the first eight tracks and Bill Frisell on the last tracks (another truly incredible musician) I sit disbelieving, totally satisfied, incredibly inspired to become a better player myself, curious, and of course in total submission to an incredible man. You can tell a lot about a person by their playing, Shawn was quite obviously genius and incredible man and everyone fortunate enough to ever be graced by his presence is truly blessed.

Seldom does anything make the hair on my arms stand up, but Shawn's playing does. This is my first time hearing Shawn. However, I assure you, it will not be my last. I have been playing for forty years and have never been this excited about music. To say his ability is a gift would not do justice to his long hours, days, months and years of dedicated practice and study. Even though his body may not be hear his spirit and music will live on in those he has touched.

Shawn's music is amazing. Few guitar players can inspire me to get better, but he has his own little world of musical style that puts anyone into a state of awe and respect.

Los sentimientos son tan profundos...tal vez me hubiera gustado cnocerlo, pero la verdad es que desde que escuche POT, lo conoci y a diario lo sigo conociendo.
