My brother, Britt Reed, found Shawn awhile back. He turned me onto him (as he has done with much great music) and my reaction was; what a powerfull force!!!
Since then, I've watched and listend to many hours of heart felt Shawn music that just takes me to a special place of piece and enjoyment. What else could I ever ask for. (except more)
I love him, I love his music, I love...
I don't have a story about Shawn, I can only tell you that his music has touched me deeply. God Bless you my brother. You and your family will forever be in my thoughts and prayers. Shawn, your music is as beautiful as your soul, your brother, Rob
After scooping my jaw up from the floor, I looked deeper into Shawn's style of playing and was astonished. The "Go Nowhere Lick" is the most innovative thing I've ever heard. I'm very glad to have come across him!
But sadly, Shawn can no longer be here with us. I wish I could have seen him live, but unfortunately I was too young to appreciate his music at that time. I hope all is well with you Shawn, as to his family too. You have changed my life Shawn Lane. Every day I think of you and your playing and become inspired to become the best. The best like you Shawn. I shed tears writing this. But they are tears of joy. Joy of what you brought to guitar and shared with us, inspired us, and what you did as a person.
You are loved by everyone. I hope you are in a better place.
Love your fan,
Kyle
Hello, my name is Kyle. I'm currently fifteen years old and have been playing guitar seriously for about a year now, having first picked up the instrument when I was twelve. But isn't why we are here. We're here for who is unmistakably the greatest person and guitarist to ever grace this world.
I was first introduced to Shawn Lane awhile back while watching some Buckethead Videos. It was at the Wetlands in New York, April 30th 1997. I was watching Buckethead play some of the most amazing music I've ever witnessed, then someone else came out. That person was Shawn Lane. I heard this music that I've never heard before. Fusion. His skills where amazing, and I heard much of what sounded like things that Buckethead would play, which I then realized where he was influenced from.

SILVER KID
I feel compelled to tell a little story that I've shared with many others. The shame of it all is that I didn't know who the story was about until today. I have attended literally hundreds of concerts and live rock shows since 1974, and it takes quite a memorable experience to stand out above the rest. It was at the Roxy (I'm pretty sure it was San Diego) in late 1978, or early 1979. The twin bill was Legs Diamond and Black Oak Arkansas. I still have the stub, and will post a photo of it as soon as I locate it. Anyway, the part of this show that I remember the most vividly (besides nearly being on the front of the stage, literally) was Jim Mangrum announcing the debut of the newest guitar prodigy, a 14-year old (although I think he was actually 15 at the time) soon-to-be-legend ______ ____. I didn't catch the name, especially because I didn't have time to catch my breath as this skinny long-haired kid in knee-high furry boots (maybe braces, too?) danced to the front of the stage and began mystifying the entire house with his incredible talent. I was amazed at the ease at which his hands moved rapidly up and down the neck, never seeming to even touch the strings.
He played effortlessly, not even fazed by the crowd, which was now pushing towards the stage. I believe Mangrum said he was the world's fastest guitar player. I have to say regardless, that I was very impressed and completely blown away. After I left that night, I knew 2 things. (1) that this kid was going to be big someday, really big. and (2) that I had been playing guitar since I was 7, and would never be at his level, ever. Well, the years went by, and I checked BOA album releases, and never could find out who this kid was. I figured that he had moved on, and since I didn't know his name, that I would never find out who he was. The first time I saw Randy Rhoads a few years later, I thought it might be him. I didn't know until today, when I started surfing the web. I regret that I didn't get to follow his career, and sincerely feel saddened that he passed away 4 years ago.
From what I've read about him, he accomplished quite a bit, even though he didn't get a lot of time in the studio early on. I will make a major effort to buy all of his recordings, and hear for the first time on CD, what I've missed out on all these years. I have always been a fan of Shawn Lane, I just now get the chance to actually find out how much others appreciated him as a person, as well as his incredible talent. Can someone help me with getting his studio recordings, and (I apologize if any family is offended) some bootlegs or other early live recordings from the late 70's/early 80's? I've love to recapture that great night at the Roxy, and maybe even become a bigger fan of his solo stuff. Thanks for letting me share a little piece of my life.
-Joe
I was introduced to Shawn a few months ago while surfing the YouTube, there was a clip of him in "Guitars Suck" by Instrumentalcase, showcasing some of the phenomenal guitarists out there. I soon found that the user had also done a 20+ minute long tribute to Shawn that I enjoyed every minute of.
The first song of Shawn's that I heard was Rules of the Game. It soaked my eyes in tears. I never would have imagined how angelically notes could convey emotion. I can say without a doubt, his music has changed my life. I've been teaching myself guitar for about 3 years now, and after seeing Shawn I could never look at music or my instrument the same again. He was a gifted soul, and a gift to this world. I carry his music in the most cherished recesses of my heart.
Shawn Lane - Gosto muito da tecnica e das composiçoes tambem. valeu Lane
I have signed the guest book earlier but feel so compelled to add to Diane, your sons music has made me shed tears im a 46 year old guitar newbie one day i will master epilogue for lisa as my tribute to Shawn. God bless Shawn and his family.
I am so shocked that I found out of his passing.:-(
When I used to be with my old band.
I seen him play and WOW I love his way of jaming back in 2003, soon after I left Monster Magnet.
I was a bass guitar player for Monster Magnet.
Shawn said and felt that I should go solo and go on my own and so I did. I am so happy that I did. So I did just that what he said at the same place where I was to play after him. I was to go on next and after I did he said to me back stage, so we talked a little. He said to me that I have an awesome gift as well.
I told him that he plays much way better then me by far.
He said to me, man you are with a band called Monster Magnet and on MTV playing the bass guitar and I said yeah but they treat me like crap. Then he said to me that I should then do something about it and go solo and that I shoud play guitar
on my own.
After I did, some people and my fans feel that I made a very bad move, but I don't think so.
What to you think?
Shawn Lane
Love ya man and Thanks,
My you always be remembered by all,
god bless you and thanks for the big push to go solo

Incredible person, incredible music, we all miss you a lot mate! You have changed music forever.
Hey Shawn, thanks for your great music. No other tunes have made my heart so close to what music should truly inspire us to become. Seriously, I'm saddened to know he's gone, but glad that what he's left behind is what I'm sure his heart could speak out. So through his music, he lives still..
