What an inspiration....my brother who has played guitar for for about 30 years had turned me on to Mr. Lane and all I can say it brings tears to my eyes when I watch the vids of him playing the way he did and at the same time dealing with his disease.....I dont care if your Gilbert, Vai, Satch, or any other shredder out there....his playing had feeling and flavor and no one will ever match him...what a loss to the guitar world. RIP Shawn

I first heard Shawn play with Black Oak in a West Va night club (The Clover Club) in the fall of 1979. I was blown away by his command of of the guitar. Lucky enough to follow him to the dressing room between sets and talk for 10 minutes. He gave alot of credit to his grandmother for some musical training. I just read that he toured with Black Oak for 4 years. I'm surprised he could tolerate the bounderies imposed by that genre of music for so long. His own works are beautiful and a tribute to all that added to his life. 🙂

I can safely say Shawn has become my favorite guitarist and I'll die happy if I can play even 10% like he could some day.

"My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies Fairytales of yesterday, will grow but never die I can fly, my friends!" "So dear friends Your love is gone Only tears to dwell upon I dare not say as the wind must blow So a love is lost, a love is won Go to sleep, and dream again Soon your hopes, will rise and then From all this gloom life will start anew And there'll be no crying soon" Freddie Mercury

I just found out today, ironically on the 4th anniversary of his death, that Shawn was gone... I and my best friend Andy Redus hung out with Shawn a few times in the mid 80's. I gasped when I saw the 'late Shawn Lane' mentioned on the Lace pickup site. I'm still stunned. God bless and keep you Shawn.

John Kelly John Kelly from phoenix az wrote on September 20, 2007 at 1:45 am:
My son Nick (3) loves to play his guitar and sing. He picked it up by himself. I am a lover of great guitar players...Eric Johnson, John Petrucci, Buckethead, Jimi, David Gilmore. He hears constant greatness on the instrument all the time. Today, I found this web page and put Nick on my lap to show him what Shawn was all about. I told him that Shawn was in Heaven and he too loved to play guitar..he listened for a moment and said to me "Shawn is happy Daddy" that brought me to tears as we listened to "Epilouge for Lisa". My son's life and happiness is everything to me and he is a very special child in everything he does. I look forward to sharing Shawns music with him. Thank you Mrs. Lane for keeping this web page up so that I could have this small but large moment with me son. Your son, even in death has brought a wonderfull moment to me and my son. Your son's music will not be forgotten. Thank you John
